Emma Jackson is delighted to hold her own solo exhibition at the Berninneit Art Gallery in Phillip Island.

Floor is Lava

07 Sept - 20 Oct

Floor is Lava is an exhibition of 15 hand knotted rugs that represent Australian Islands with a unique volcanic story. Each rug has been selected for their unique volcanic story. Most of these islands are on the east coast of the continent, their volcanic character due to their proximity to various existing and prehistoric magmatic arcs.

Islands are unique geological phenomena. Some are raised ocean floor and have a very young geological profile, but others are a result of oceans rising and making islands of what once was mainland. Due to the amount of movement of tectonic plates on the East coast of Australia over the last 400 million years there is a lot of volcanic activity under the ocean floor, which explains the presence of volcanic rock on east coast islands.
