King Prawn Rug

The geological name for the iridescent King Prawn is the Gawler Craton. This old crustacean has been motoring round the globe for over 4 billion years. It has been at all the big continental parties; Nuna, Rodinia, and Gondwana. The Archean rock (bright pink) that dapples its exoskeleton is only a hint at what lies beneath. It has a back vein of Paleoproterozoic rock (coral) which is rich in iron ore; and a volcanic abdomen (bright green), known more commonly as the Gawler Ranges.
