FABRICS

The upholstery fabric was designed in Melbourne by Emma Jackson studio and is the result of deciphering thousands of geology maps of Australia and redrawing and re-colouring them so that the geological behaviour is more explicit.

The fabric is commercial grade and is woven on a jacquard loom in Belgium. The fabric itself is constructed of 5 threads in the warp (length of the fabric) and 8 threads in the weft (width of the fabric). Over 200 colour combinations can be made with these 13 thread colours, just like mixing paint. Different weave structures can also be chosen to add texture, tone and nuance. Colour, texture, and yarn legibility are the grammar of these ancient earth stories.
